The Society and Its Purpose

The Society of Medicine & Curiosity (SMAC) is an independent health professions micro-learning publication. Its content is produced for educational and informational purposes. Nothing published by the Society constitutes medical advice, clinical guidance, or a substitute for the judgment of a qualified health professional.

This bears repeating: the Society's content is not medical advice. It is, however, the truth — as best as the Society can determine it at the time of publication.

---

Membership and Access

The Society offers free membership to anyone who subscribes with a valid email address. Free members receive the Society's newsletter and access to published content on thesmac.org.

Paid membership tiers, if introduced, will be governed by additional terms communicated at the time of purchase. The Society reserves the right to introduce, modify, or discontinue membership tiers with reasonable notice to affected members.

Membership is personal and non-transferable. You may not share your account credentials with others.

---

Acceptable Use

Fellows of the Society are expected to engage with the publication and its community in a manner consistent with the Fellowship Bylaws — available in full at thesmac.org/fellowship.

In plain terms, the Society prohibits the following:

- Using the Society's content to spread health misinformation
- Reproducing, reselling, or redistributing the Society's content without permission
- Attempting to access systems or data beyond your authorised membership level
- Harassing, threatening, or abusing other Fellows or the Society's operator
- Any use of the Society's platform that violates applicable law

Violations of these terms may result in immediate termination of membership without refund.

---

Intellectual Property

All content published by the Society of Medicine & Curiosity — including written content, visual assets, the SMAC seal, segment identities, and the brand system — is the intellectual property of the Society's operator.

Fellows may share individual pieces of Society content for personal, non-commercial, educational purposes provided attribution is given to The Society of Medicine & Curiosity and a link to thesmac.org is included. Wholesale reproduction of the Society's content library, paid redistribution, or use in commercial products is not permitted without written consent.

---

Medical Disclaimer

The Society of Medicine & Curiosity produces educational content about health, medicine, and health professions practice. This content is intended to inform, not to diagnose, treat, or replace professional clinical judgment.

Nothing on thesmac.org, in the Society's newsletter, or on any of the Society's social media platforms constitutes medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider for decisions about your health or the health of those in your care.

The Society takes its evidentiary standards seriously. However, medicine changes. Content that was accurate at the time of publication may become outdated. The Society is not liable for decisions made on the basis of its content.

---

Third-Party Links

The Society's content may include links to external sources, studies, and resources. These links are provided for reference and do not constitute endorsement of the linked content, organisation, or publication. The Society is not responsible for the accuracy, availability, or privacy practices of external sites.

---

Limitation of Liability

The Society's content is provided on an "as is" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Society and its operator are not liable for any damages arising from your use of or reliance on the Society's content, including but not limited to clinical decisions, educational outcomes, or technical issues with the platform.

---

Termination

You may cancel your membership at any time by unsubscribing or deleting your account. The Society reserves the right to terminate or suspend any membership for violation of these terms, the Fellowship Bylaws, or applicable law.

---

Changes to These Terms

The Society may update these Terms of Service from time to time. Material changes will be communicated to active subscribers by email before they take effect. Continued use of the Society's platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

---

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the Society's operator is located. Disputes arising from these terms will be resolved in accordance with those laws.

---

Contact
